Melovia: Matilda Reimagined – A Little Magic on Stage
There are some school moments that stay with us long after the curtains close. Melovia: Matilda Reimagined, our school’s first-ever musical production, was one such moment.
Bringing the much-loved story of Matilda to the stage, our young performers took audiences on a joyful journey filled with laughter, music, mischief, friendship and heart. From the very first note, the stage became Matilda’s world—a world of books and big dreams, funny families, unforgettable characters and a little girl who dared to stand up for what was right.
At the centre of the story was Matilda herself: curious, clever and wonderfully determined. Her love for books and learning, her playful spirit and her courage in the face of unfairness made her journey both entertaining and inspiring. Along the way, audiences met the hilarious Wormwoods, the warm-hearted Miss Honey, Matilda’s friends and, of course, the larger-than-life Miss Trunchbull.
The production was sprinkled with moments that had the audience laughing out loud—from Matilda’s mischievous green-hair prank to the wonderfully comic Wormwood Motors sequence. Bruce Bogtrotter’s legendary chocolate-cake episode brought its own share of excitement, while the children’s growing friendship and courage added warmth to the story.
But perhaps the most touching part of the story was the bond between Matilda and Miss Honey. Their relationship beautifully reminded us that sometimes, all a child needs is one person who truly sees them, believes in them and gives them the confidence to be themselves. Their journey together brought a gentle emotional depth to the production and made its message especially meaningful.
As the story unfolded, the children discovered that there is strength in standing together. The powerful “Revolting Children” sequence captured this beautifully, as the students found their collective voice and stood up against injustice. It was a joyful reminder that courage becomes even stronger when we find it together.
For our students, however, the magic of Melovia extended far beyond the stage. It was in the rehearsals, the shared laughter, the nervous moments before going on stage, the learning of lines and songs, the teamwork behind every scene and the friendships that grew along the way. Every child contributed something special to the production, making it truly a celebration of our school community.
And when the final curtain fell, the response from our audience was heartwarming. Parents and staff received the production with tremendous warmth, appreciation and enthusiasm. The overwhelmingly positive feedback was a wonderful affirmation of the effort, creativity and spirit that our students and teachers had poured into the production.
Our first Melovia was not simply about putting on a show. It was about giving children a stage on which to dream a little bigger, find their voice, work together and discover what they are capable of.
As the cast came forward for their final bow, there were smiles on faces, pride in hearts and, perhaps, a tiny feeling of sadness that the journey had come to an end.
But only for now.
The curtain may have closed on Matilda Reimagined, but the magic of Melovia has just begun.

Dahl-esque wit, looks, menace and tests... tummy rumbles, newts and ghosts with threats...
Nobody hit the brakes. Nobody needed to stop.
We went on a joyful rollercoaster red car ride through kindness, fluffiness, little dreams and remarkable lives.
A smooth as chocolate engine hummed through Wormwood House, Wormwood Motors, a school for ‘maggots’, a library, a field, a classroom, a Principal’s office, green woods to Ms Honey’s house.
A clever alphabet song (school bells timed to perfection), a dramatic Bob Trotter EAT song, a hoopla flight through imagination, a remarkable spelling test,... to ... REVOLTING...
Dance, drama, action and the right kind of revenge that satiated all appetites!
Matilda, Mrs Agatha Trunchbull, Ms Honey, Bob Trotter, the Wormwood family, the pirouetting dance partner, the dancers, the singers, the timing, the scene shifts, the background scores, the props and backdrops, the audience participation... SPOT ON!
Overall outcome: A+++
